Asked Questions

For your first class at Duo Movement, bring comfortable activewear, a water bottle, and grip socks for Reformer Pilates classes. Grip socks help with stability and hygiene on the reformer machine. If you’re attending a Heated Mat Pilates class, a towel is also recommended.
-
Reformer Pilates uses a specialised machine with springs and resistance to support and challenge the body through controlled movements. Mat Pilates, including Heated Mat Pilates, is performed on the floor using body weight and small equipment to build strength and stability. Both styles focus on core strength, mobility, and mindful movement.
-
Pilates is often recommended for injury recovery because it focuses on controlled movements, core stability, and proper alignment. However, if you have an injury or medical condition, it’s important to let your instructor know before class so they can provide appropriate modifications.

Pilates is known for strengthening the core muscles, including the abdominals, lower back, and pelvic floor. However, Pilates also works the entire body, including the legs, glutes, arms, and shoulders. Reformer Pilates in particular allows for a wide variety of exercises that challenge multiple muscle groups at once.
-
Yes, Reformer Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise. The reformer machine supports the body while providing adjustable resistance, which helps reduce pressure on joints. This makes Pilates a great option for people looking to improve strength and mobility without the high-impact stress of some workouts.
-
Pilates is often recommended to help manage and prevent back pain because it focuses on strengthening the core and supporting proper posture. Stronger core muscles help stabilise the spine and improve overall movement patterns. If you have existing back pain or injuries, it's important to inform your instructor before class.
-
Pilates offers a wide range of physical benefits, including improved core strength, better posture, increased flexibility, enhanced balance, and reduced risk of injury. Regular Pilates practice can also support mental focus and body awareness, making it a well-rounded approach to fitness.
Meet the DUO.
Steph and Laura met during their Pilates training and just clicked straight away - same energy, same values, and a shared love for movement that actually makes you feel something.
They ended up working together for years across different studios, constantly swapping ideas, learning as they went, and realising pretty quickly they were always on the same page.
Somewhere along the way, they started to feel that something was missing in the Pilates world: more personality, more connection, and studios that actually felt warm and human, not transactional.
So they built DUO.
What started as a shared idea between friends turned into a studio shaped by that experience - a bit obsessive about good Pilates, big on energy, and focused on creating a space where people feel strong, seen, and genuinely part of something.
